Under the Blanket (dir. Tanicha Toro-Oloto) wins best Undergraduate Factual, the first time a film from Norwich University of the Arts has won at the national RTS Student Television awards.
Royal Television Society Student Television awards celebrate the best audiovisual work created by students across the UK. Winners from regional competitions are selected to complete the shortlist for the nationwide awards, which took place at the BFI Southbank.
Under the Blanket, directed by Norwich graduate Tanicha Toro-Oloto, received a nomination in the national Undergraduate Factual category after winning an RTS East award. The film overcame strong entries from Arts University Bournemouth and Newcastle University to win the category.
Under the Blanket is an observational documentary exploring the impact of a mother’s actions upon her children and extended family. The team behind the film included Norwich BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production graduates Tanicha Toro-Oloto, Raphaela Dowding-Green, Kate McCourt and Billy Bramwell.
Liam Wells, Course Leader BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production, said:
‘We were delighted for Tanicha and her team winning the national Royal Television Society award for Best Undergraduate Factual film. A national RTS award is recognition from the industry of the highest quality of storytelling, craft and originality. Winning this award can be life changing for new and emerging film talent, as well as signalling the high quality of our Film and Moving Image Production graduates on a national industry stage.’
