Clearing FAQs

What is Clearing?

Clearing is part of the application cycle for universities. It’s an opportunity for students to apply for undergraduate courses that still have spaces available to start in September.

Who can use Clearing?

You can use clearing if you:

  • Didn’t receive any offers
  • Declined all your offers
  • On receiving their results, they didn’t get the grades needed for a conditional offer
  • Got the grades you needed but have changed your mind about where you want to study

How will I know if I’m in Clearing?

When you log in to UCAS, it will say: ‘You are in Clearing. Your Clearing number is…’. This might be because you didn’t get any offers or because you didn’t get the grades you needed for your firm or insurance choice.

Accepting your offer

Once you’ve been made your decision on accepting an offer through Clearing, you will need to follow the instructions in the offer email to accept.

You should also update their student finance application online to reflect any changes in their university choices. They may be entitled to additional funding depending on where they are now going to university. If they haven’t started a student finance application, they can start one now. They don’t need to wait until they have a place to apply.

I’ve changed my mind and want to come to Norwich. How can I release myself from my firm or insurance choice?

You can decline your firm or insurance yourself; you don’t need to contact the university directly. Just log in to UCAS and click on the ‘Decline my place’ button then select your reason for wanting to be released.

Can I go through Clearing if I haven’t applied through UCAS?

Certainly, you can. If you’re waiting for your grades, you can call us on the Clearing hotline +44 (0) 1603 751485 as soon as you have them. If we’re able to make you an offer, we’ll guide you through the process of applying

If you already have you grades (for example, if you’re a mature student or took a gap year), there’s no point waiting for the Results Day rush. Call us on the Clearing hotline +44 (0) 1603 751485 any time from 5 July onwards.

I’m an international student, can I apply through Clearing

Yes, use the Clearing hotline number +44 (0) 1603 751485 and you will get straight through to someone with the specialist knowledge that you need.

How can I stay updated?

You can register for updates from Norwich and we will keep you up to date on the latest Clearing news.

What courses are in Clearing?

Not all of our undergraduate courses are open during Clearing, so it’s important to check that the course you want to apply for is still accepting applications.

The motherhood shoot was inspired by renaissance portrayals of the biblical figure Mary (the mother of Jesus). (‘The Sistine Madonna’ by Raphael being the biggest influence). The images show a mother and her child outlined with Greek biblical text quoting (Luke 1:42) ‘…Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.’ The Mother figure is an allegory for mothers who in this context symbolise ‘the beginning of life’. Renaissance art often romanticises relational characters, so I conceptualised the mother and child to replicate Raphael’s ‘The Sistine Madonna’ and other classic portrayals of the biblical figure in a renaissance-esque editorial style.
